ECMSG runs on 4 values: Preparation, Responsiveness, Collaboration, and Kindness. They shape how staff treat you, how you treat others, and what happens when something goes wrong.

🧭 What Happens If You Make a Mistake?
Redirection
A general, low-key nudge — a look, a tap on your desk, or a teacher asking your table or the whole class to quiet down.
Direct Redirection
A teacher speaks to you directly and asks you to stop or get back on track — sometimes in front of the class, sometimes one-on-one, in class or outside it. This step is common but not guaranteed every time.
Deduction
If it continues, it’s recorded as a deduction tied to one of our 4 values, so you know exactly what to work on.
Some things skip straight to a bigger response — no redirection first. This includes anything that hurts someone or makes school unsafe, like fighting, bullying, or racist or hurtful language.
📋 Referrals
A referral is the most serious step, and it is not a note that quietly goes away. When you get one, we contact your family, and they keep hearing from us for as long as the referral stays open. If someone was harmed, that is at least every two weeks. For everything else, at least once a month.
A referral can cost you things you want. Dances, the student store, and non-academic field trips are privileges, not rights, and they can be taken away. Chromebook and phone access can be pulled for a period of time. You may also owe repair: a mediation, a facilitated apology, a restorative conference or circle, community service, or a research project connected to what happened.
A referral does not close because enough time went by. It closes when the behavior stops and stays stopped.
What gets you a referral
- Physical conflict
- Racist behavior
- Dehumanizing language or behavior
- Bullying or harassment
- Serious Chromebook misuse, like getting around filters, going after harmful content, or using your school account to go after someone
- Repeating a behavior after redirection and deductions have not changed it
- Repeated phone and device violations
- Repeated dress code violations
📵 Phones & Devices
Phones, earbuds, and smart watches stay off and in a closed, zipped compartment inside your backpack all day, including at lunch and recess. A side mesh pocket or an open pocket doesn’t count — it has to be a compartment you zip shut. If it’s out and visible, it gets taken to the office for the day.

🤖 Doing Your Own Work
Your work should be your own thinking. Copying someone else’s work or using AI tools when your teacher hasn’t said it’s okay counts as an academic honesty issue.
