The #1 Thing to Know
Try to miss zero to two days per quarter. That adds up to fewer than 8 days for the whole year.
The more school you miss, the harder it gets to keep your grades up:

📞 Going to Miss School?
Have a parent or guardian email or call the front office before 9am — or send a message on Talking Points.
Email ecmsgoffice@ecsonline.org✅❌ What Counts as Excused?
✅ Excused
- You’re sick
- Doctor or dentist appointment
- Family emergency
- Religious holiday
- Required court date
❌ Not Excused
- Oversleeping
- Vacation that wasn’t pre-approved
- Missed the bus
- Babysitting or working
⚠️ Watch Out for These Days
- Your siblings’ day off is not your day off. ECMS follows a different school calendar than LAUSD (we’re a LACOE charter school, not an LAUSD school). If your brother or sister goes to an LAUSD school and they’re off, but ECMS is open, you still need to come to school.
- The Friday before a vacation is a full school day. A lot of students miss it, but it still counts — come to school!
🤝 Missing a Lot of School?
If you’re missing a lot of school, talk with our social worker, Ms. Celeaste — she’ll also check in with you to help you get back on track. This isn’t about getting in trouble, it’s about helping you succeed.

If you already know you’ll be missing several school days in a row (like a family trip) and the dates can’t change, have your parent/guardian email Celeaste Benitez about independent study before you go.
