Our students are 11 to 14 years old, and they notice who shows up. When they see adults from their own neighborhood working at their school, they read it as a sign that this place is worth their effort. One application per school year, for every level. The form is in English. In Chrome, right-click the page and choose Translate to Spanish. On a phone, open it in the Chrome app and choose Translate from the menu. The front office will also sit with you and fill it out together. No one volunteers at ECMS Gardena until they attend an in-person orientation at the school, at any level. Orientations are held monthly. You can attend at any point: before, during, or after your other steps. One hard line: if a task ever puts you in live contact with students, in person or on a video call, stop and talk to the office first. Cost: volunteers pay for Live Scan and TB clearance. If the cost is a financial hardship, talk to the front office.   • Pick up the Live Scan Request Form at the front office.
  • Bring the form and a government photo ID.
  • Fingerprints are scanned electronically, no ink. It takes about ten minutes once you are called.
  • We call you as soon as your clearance comes back.

Any one of these three is enough. You do not need all three.Cualquiera de estas tres es suficiente. No necesita las tres.

  1. A physician-signed risk assessment form saying no risk factors are present. Usually the quickest route.
  2. A negative TB skin test. This takes two visits, one to place it and one to read it.
  3. A physician-signed negative chest x-ray, if you have had a positive skin test before.

Bring a government photo ID every visit. Right now, staff take your ID at the front office and run a Megan’s Law search. In a few weeks we move to Raptor, a school visitor system: you will scan your ID at the front office instead of handing it over. Either way, check out before you leave. If you suspect or learn of child abuse, you are required to report it. You do not investigate, you do not decide whether it is true, and you do not need proof.
