Pamela Joya is the new School Social Worker for the Environmental Charter Schools-Inglewood site. Previously, she was a School Social worker for a charter high school in South LA. Pamela also interned with LAUSD School Based Mental Health and Long Beach Unified Foster Youth Unit. Pamela is at ECS because she believes that all children not only deserve the right for quality education but should be viewed holistically.
Pamela previously interned at USC Keck Hospital Violence Intervention Program, assisting Forensic and Pediatric Psychologists in the Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) clinic, which inspired her to go into the mental health field. Pamela then became a behavioral therapist to help children with Autism and other learning disabilities by helping children meet developmentally aged-appropriate goals. After graduating from graduate school, Pamela continued on to become a School Social Worker and created a mental health club. With the idea of furthering wellness on campus, Pamela piloted programs like “Sown to Grow” and “Wayfinder” to help establish SEL in student advisories, which later helped influence a school-wide initiative and a metric for student’s report cards. Pamela furthered on to be part of the Wellness Design team to help define and create the mission statement of Wellness at her previous network.
Pamela graduated from the University of Southern California with her Bachelors in Psychology and a minor in Criminality and Forensics. She then furthered her education at California State University, Fullerton and obtained her Masters in Social Work with an emphasis in Child Welfare. After graduation, Pamela received her Pupil Personnel Services Credential from UCLA and is currently working towards becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Pamela is a native of Los Angeles, CA. Her passions revolve around child welfare and equity in school systems.
