Through the generosity of our supporters and partnerships with community organizations, Environmental Charter Schools (ECS) continues to provide quality STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) programs for its students. These great programs include:
National Math, Engineering, and Science Achievement (MESA) Program
Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) provides ECHS students with the skills and resources to be successful in school and in career in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines.
Regional Solar Boat program and competition
Solar Boat is a seven-month after school program in which ECHS students build and race solar-powered boats, while learning about conservation of natural resources, electrical and mechanical engineering, problem solving and much more.
National VEX Robotics Program
The primary objectives of Robotics are to equip ECHS students with hands-on opportunities to learn computer programming, coding, and other advanced technology & engineering skills and increase students’ interest and motivation to pursue STEM college degrees and careers.
Recycled Fashion (R’Ashion)
R'Ashion is an after school program that allows ECHS students the opportunity to take recycled materials, like newspaper or soda can tabs, and create fashion. Our students have visited Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising to learn more about future careers in the industry.
ECHS Bike Shop
With the goals of encouraging more bicycling within the ECHS community and teaching students valuable life skills, the ECHS Bike Club brings classroom principles to life and is a place for students to develop and apply their talents for a sustainable cause.
Green Ambassadors program
Green Ambassadors is an environmental education and service learning program that empowers youth to be agents of change in their communities and to take action locally to make a measurable difference in their communities. The innovative academic program creates opportunities for students to develop leadership skills while addressing the critical environmental issues facing the planet and its residents.
These programs provide many ECS students with a first-time introduction to STEAM careers as many have never considered pursuing a career in a STEAM-related field. Having discovered their talents and interests in STEAM disciplines, ECS students are able to identify their passions and hone their goals for the future.
Because of the STEAM program, I have been exposed to different things I would’ve never known if this program weren’t available at my school.
ECHS 11th Grade Student
The STEAM program has made me more open-minded as a whole and helped me realize what I truly loved to do.
ECHS 11th Grade Student
The STEAM Programs at ECS provide students with hands-on learning experiences in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer programming and industrial arts, and enables students to visualize for themselves a STEAM career and the pathway to get there.
As the year went on and I participated in activities, I slowly started to realize what I am passionate about. Robotics specifically helped me in realizing that I would go into computer engineering. In this program, I learned the basics of coding which only ended up reinforcing the passion I have for computers.
