On December 6th more than 75 volunteers gathered at Environmental Charter Middle School-Gardena to build a rain garden and plant native, drought-tolerant plants, helping turn our campus into a habitat for native insects and animals.

A print artist from LA Commons led volunteers in creating an art installation that will beautify our grounds. The installation was inspired by our students’ recent trip to the Gardena Willows Wetlands and serves as an expression of our hopes and dreams for the school and neighborhood.
Our student rock band serenaded as our dance team entertained visitors while they feasted on tacos and hot apple cider. Honored guests included a Representative from Mark Ridley Thomas‘ office and the Chair of Harbor Gateway North Neighborhood Council.
A big THANK YOU to Boeing, LA Commons, From Lot to Spot and Friends of Gardena Willows Wetland for helping us make this beautification project possible.
