COMMUNITY FORUM/COMUNIDAD FORO
FEBRUARY 5. 2016/ FEBRERO 5. 2016
9 am – 12 pm
16315 Grevillea Ave. Lawndale, CA 90260
Join us as our students present, advocate, debate and share their perspectives on:
- IN WHAT WAYS CAN I IMPACT MY COMMUNITY MOST EFFECTIVELY AND SUSTAINABLY? After research of plastic pollution in our community, students asked themselves, "Should we ban the plastic bag in California?" Hear our students present their participation in a variety of civic actions either in support of or opposition to the November 2016 ballot measure to overturn California's Single-Use Plastic Bag Ban.
- WHAT DOES LA NEED TO THRIVE? Students investigated the changes of the Los Angeles Basin from the Industrial Revolution to present day and into the future. Hear from students about how that growth has influenced and impacted the ecosystems of the region.
- HOW DOES GENTRIFICATION AFFECT EDUCATION, TRANSPORTATION, BUSINESS, HOUSING AND THE ENVIRONMENT IN A COMMUNITY? Students will interview community members and create a digital website about gentrification on a specific block in their neighborhood with respect to education, business, environment, public transportation and housing.
- CAN MINIMAL LIVING IMPROVE QUALITY OF LIFE? After learning about equity investment as a means to finance their tiny homes and a change to minimal living, students use statistics to support their argument that minimal living may or may not improve quality of life. Hear their arguments as well as how green technology and various plants and aesthetics can be applied to minimal living (tiny homes).
