Students Launch Sustain-A-Store at Environmental Charter High School
Inspired to create a social enterprise, ECHS students launched the first ever student-run store on campus. Repurposing a LEED shed formerly used for storage, students wanted to change the way their peers consumed. The Sustain-A-Store is a student led store providing students, teachers and visitors with a variety of conscious products. Items range from snacks to reusable bottles to cosmetics to books published by students. “It’s a fun challenge for our team because we are constantly learning about new sustainable companies and have to stay true to our conscious mission,” says Store Manager and ECHS Senior, Xiomara Linares. Students are learning the ins and out of entrepreneurship while running their own store: sales, marketing, management, relationship building and research.
