Environmental Charter High School to Host 10th Annual Career Day: “Connect for Success” Presented by ReGreen on November 10
–Former NFL Player and Motivational Speaker Thomas Williams, EmpowHer Institute, LA County Arboretum and Heal the Bay Among Invited Speakers–
Lawndale, Calif. – Environmental Charter High Schools (ECHS) will host Career Day on November 10 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sponsored by El Segundo-based solar solutions company ReGreen, the conference will focus around the theme “Connect for Success” and offer a full, interactive schedule of speaker sessions, workshops and a connections session. For a decade, ECHS has attracted some of the most respected figures from politics, environmental causes, sports, green and non-profit industries, among a celebrated roster of entrepreneurs and local Los Angeles businesses. This year’s event will feature a keynote address delivered by former USC and NFL linebacker, author and motivational speaker Thomas Williams (Vacaville, Calif.); and a slate of 60 speakers who will connect with and inspire the students of ECHS as they look to make an impact in the world beyond their classroom.

The annual Career Day is implemented as part of Environmental Charter Schools’ commitment to foster the education of their students with real-world experiences to supplement classroom and textbook learning. A key goal of Career Day is to connect students to mentors representing different sectors and organizations for their senior thesis projects – a requirement needed to graduate. The premise of the thesis is to address a social injustice they are both passionate about and are able to realistically make steps towards a solution for that issue. The spectrum of speakers will represent the following industries: law enforcement, non-profit, environmental, engineering, universities, sports, mental health, automotive, city government, National Parks, real estate, architectural, legal, healthcare, the arts and more.
“Career Day plays an important role in ECHS’ mission to equip students with the tools they need to tackle real-world issues,” said Alison Diaz, executive director and founder, Environmental Charter Schools. “The work accomplished at ECS is possible through the strength of our community partners and we are confident that the education students receive from the classrooms coupled with these invaluable connections will equip them to make a positive impact in the world beyond ECHS.”
ReGreen is a sponsor of the ECHS College & Career Initiative, which includes Career Day 2016 and also provides the comprehensive and high-quality college prep offered to the students. As of May 2016, 97 percent of ECHS seniors were accepted into four-year colleges, compared to 33 percent among students with similar demographics or similar surrounding communities. Additionally, ReGreen supports programming which offers ECHS students real-world experience in green industries, speaking to the students and support to the ECHS Green Ambassadors Institute interns during their sustainability audits of local businesses.
