Crystal Sanchez, a student at Environmental Charter High School, developed the Guardian Locket, a locket that helps to prevent sexual assault, during a school entrepreneurship class.
The Guardian Locket has a disguised button that the wearer clicks if they are being attacked. The click of this button sends an alert to local authorities and emergency contacts, who can assist the person in need.
With the support and mentorship of her ECHS teacher, Ms. Brandie Cobb, Crystal's journey with this project took her first to win the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) Regional Youth Challenge, (read the story here), which garnered local Los Angeles media attention (here) and then took her on to the National Competition.
At the National Competition, Crystal performed outstandingly well, and was awarded with first place!
We are so proud of Crystal for all of her hard work, innovation, and impact with this invention!
