On Saturday, November 1st more than 250 volunteers from KaBOOM!, Smile Generation and the neighborhood showed up to help us build a new playground at Environmental Charter Middle School-Inglewood.
The new playground features a jungle gym, rock climbing wall, slide, shade terraces and many other features that encourage our students to get outside and have fun. Volunteers, including Councilman Ralph Franklin, helped us build garden beds and beautiful wooden park benches that will bring peace and life to the campus. Volunteers also led students in a wooden canvas art project that will bring beauty to blight.
The Smile Generation brought their mobile dental unit to offer dental services to participants. Volunteer dentists treated 25 patients every hour throughout the day, providing everything from teeth cleanings, extractions and root canals to crown restorations. Saturday was all about making our community smile!
This event was one example of what a community can create when they come together for a common cause. Everyone rolled up their sleeves and participated in a group dance before Mayor James Butts and Assemblymember Steven Bradford helped us cut the ribbon to our new playground at the end of the day! Together we proved that #PlayMatters!
