Yvette Hernandez is the Social Worker of the Environmental Charter Schools-Lawndale starting the 2025/26 school year. Yvette has worked with the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) and Lawndale Elementary School District (LESD) as a school social work intern. During her time with LACOE, Yvette worked with Marco Antonio Firebaugh High School and Los Padrinos Juvenile Academy. Yvette is most passionate about applying her trauma-informed approach and focusing on improving students’ mental health.

Yvette has dedicated 2 years of school social work experiences. She has worked with students ranging from ages 6 years old to 18 years old. Throughout the 2 years, Yvette has participated in community led events such as food drives, organizing the nominations of gifts for families during the holidays, and clothes drives. During Yvette’s experiences, she has built community within the schools by organizing student-led clubs, creating campus-wide activities to spread awareness on various topics, and has provided social-emotional lessons in classrooms. 

Yvette graduated with a MSW from California State University of Fullerton with a concentration in Child Welfare. Additionally, Yvette holds a PPSC in School Social Work and Child Welfare and Attendance. During her undergraduate studies, Yvette attended the University of California, Riverside and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. Yvette has many hobbies including physical activity such as snowboarding and roller skating. She has a niche interest in bees and was a part of a research team at UCR where she tended to the beehives in a bee suit. Yvette is passionate about helping students in identifying their emotions and deepening student’s knowledge of mental health tools. One of Yvette’s personal missions is to empower students to articulate their emotions and cope in healthy ways.
