WHILE THE WHITE TIGER IS THE ECS MASCOT, OUR BUNNIES AND CHICKENS GIVE THE WILD CAT A RUN FOR ITS MONEY
Meet Ruby, one of our campus bunnies. On any given day across our campuses, you’re likely to find one of our adorable bunnies hopping around the campus yard — munching on campus compost and teaching our students to be tender.

Bunnies on campus teach our students to be considerate and gentle, and also serve as a reminder to students and staff that we are all part of a system. By using organic food waste to feed the bunnies–and the bunnies’ waste to fertilize our soil–ECS students learn first hand that they can turn "waste" into useful resources. In other words, one rabbit’s trash can be another soil bed’s treasure!

Bunnies are not the only member of the animal kingdom you can find roaming ECS campuses. At our High School, more than half-a-dozen chickens enjoy pecking around and celebrating passing periods with our students. These chickens aerate our soil, put food on our tables and brighten our days.
While the animals on campus may serve as a furry friend to some, for others they are inspiring senior thesis topics. While reflecting on the lack of access to affordable, healthy food in many low-income communities, Senior Tulsi Patel decided that she wanted to take action by bringing chickens into homes to provide families with access to free, fresh eggs on a daily basis.
