100 Volunteers Needed for November 1st Build Day at ECMS-Inglewood
Thanks to a generous grant from KaBOOM!, Inc. and The Smile Generation Environmental Charter Middle School-Inglewood (ECMS-I) is getting a new playground – and we need your help (plus your friends, family, co-workers, etc.) to make it happen! KaBOOM! and The Smile Generation are providing the organizational, planning and material resources, and we are calling on our community to help design, plan and build the playground.

The project officially kicked off September 22nd with Design Day when representatives from KaBOOM! and The Smile Generation visited ECMS-Inglewood and talked with students about what they wanted in a playground. Parents, teachers and members of the community also had an opportunity to offer their ideas. The final playground design will integrate these suggestions.
Since preparation is key to making our project successful, Build Week will begin with two Prep Days, Thursday, October 30 and Friday, October 31. That’s when 20-30 adult volunteers will help sort and label the equipment, cut wood and dig holes for the playground. If you are interested in joining us on those days, please contact Kami Cotler.
It all comes together Saturday, November 1st, when 100+ adult volunteers converge on the ECMS-I campus for Build Day. Working together with KaBOOM! and The Smile Generation, we’ll build a playground – all in one day.
“While it’s our priority, Environmental Charter Schools (ECS) has never been satisfied with just providing excellent educational opportunities in underserved communities,” notes ECS Founder and Executive Director Alison Suffet-Diaz. “We’re also all about being a good neighbor and engaged community partner. This new playground will provide an ideal environment for our students to get out and play. Since it will be available for the community to enjoy during non-school hours, it will also be a great asset to the neighborhood.”
