Tabby Matthews is the Green Ambassadors Teacher at Environmental Charter Middle School, Gardena since 2021. Tabby first arrived at ECMS-Gardena in 2017 soon after relocating to CA from the UK. She was impressed by the genuine mission of ECS and its staff to provide students in underserved communities with access to a high-quality educational experience, which aims to reduce social and environmental inequity.
Before joining ECS, Tabby was Geography Coordinator for the DeMontfort Middle and High School, in Worcestershire, UK, where she taught grades six thru twelve, physical/ human geography and History. She was responsible for organizing field work opportunities for students to prepare for AP equivalent examinations, both in Wales and In Italy, carrying out field studies on The Long Mynd River, Mt Vesuvius and Pompei.
Tabby is a graduate of Middlesex University and holds a BA (hons) in Third World Studies, which involved a Semester of study at the Guilin University of Technology, in Guangxi, China as well as conducting irrigation field work In Tunisia, North Africa. She earned a Post Graduate Certificate of Secondary Education, Geography, from Worcester University and completed Qualified Teacher Status in 2007 through the British Teaching Council. Tabby holds a Social Science California Teaching Credential.
In her spare time Tabby enjoys running /skating / paddle boarding at the beach, hiking and camping with her family and dog in the San Gabriels and high Sierras, as well as going to music festivals and other live events.
