“If we can’t measure it, it doesn’t exist,” Abraham Verghese.
Charity Rock prides herself on data-driven instruction, proven practices, and increased student awareness. She is an advocate for both students and teachers. Her prior roles of mathematics teacher, math department head, and curriculum implementation specialist has positioned her nicely to serve as the Secondary Math Specialist at Environmental Charter Schools.
Preparing our students for the ever changing world is a task that she does not take lightly. She understands that students must be given the opportunity to struggle productively, explain their thinking, critique the reasoning of others and build their individual capacity for mathematical reasoning every day. This results in confident, creative critical thinkers, which in turn leads to success in college and beyond. Working closely with the Chief Academic Officer, ECS Math Coaches, and Math Teachers, she actively supports student success by way of data analysis and collaborative planning.
Rock earned her BA in Economics from the University of California-Irvine. She holds a Masters Degree in Education, as well as a Teaching Credential with an emphasis in Mathematics and Multicultural Learners. She was honored with a Distinguished Educator ranking and Teacher of the Year at her previous site. She is a mother of three incredible scholars, and enjoys working out and baking (quite the combo)! When time allows she appreciates taking in a good book (she recommends Cutting For Stone by none other than Abraham Verghese) and loves concerts.
