On February 21, 2015, ECHS students joined Brian Lindquist, owner of Beach Cities Cycles in Hermosa Beach, for a 50 mile round-trip bike ride from ECHS to the Pacific Palisades. The long distance ride was organized by ECHS students, many of whom bike or skateboard to school. When they aren’t doing weekend rides together, students in the Bike Club are promoting sustainable transportation by running the ECHS Bike Shop, which serves as a community resource to students, teachers and families in Lawndale.
With the goals of encouraging more bicycling within the ECHS community and teaching students valuable life skills, the ECHS Bike Club brings classroom principles to life and is a place for students to develop and apply their talents for a sustainable cause. Brian visits the Bike Club every week as a volunteer to teach students how to repair and build bikes. Students from the the Bike Club run the campus Bike Shop where ECHS students and the community can bring their bikes to be fixed free of charge. The students also refurbish old bikes in order to rent or sell at an affordable cost to their peers, teachers and community members. This partnership with Beach Cities Cycles is one of the many fruitful community partnerships at ECHS!
