A team of officials from the U.S. Department of Education will visit two South Bay schools Monday as part of a West Coast tour of 16 schools that have been recognized nationally for their environmental curriculum.
The point of the visits to Environmental Charter High School in Lawndale and Grand View Elementary School in Manhattan Beach will be to assess ways that school facilities can enhance the conditions of learning.
The group will tour at Environmental Charter at 2 p.m. and Grand View at 3:30 p.m.
The two schools are among 78 recipients nationwide of the ED-Green Ribbon Schools and District Sustainability Awardees, which were recognized for reducing their environmental impact. The schools were judged based on energy use, waste and water; creating healthy learning environments and fostering wellness practices; and providing effective environmental education that prepares students to succeed in the 21st century, including STEM, green careers and civics.
