Julie Klotz is the new Green Ambassadors teacher at Environmental Charter Middle School – Gardena. Julie brings three years of experience as a paraeducator, one year as a substitute teacher, and ten years working with children with exceptionalities. She has also worked as a math and science tutor. 

Julie is at ECS because she is passionate about social justice, environmentalism, and preparing students to be successful members of a global society. She believes in empowering and uplifting youth through education and involvement in their communities. Being the Green Ambassadors teacher gives her an opportunity to share her passions for nature, science, sustainability, and advocacy with passionate young learners.

Julie truly enjoys being involved in her community and causes! She is a member of The Nature Conservancy, The World Wildlife Fund, The Planetary Society, Human Rights Campaign, and the National Science Teaching Association. Julie has volunteered for many organizations over the years, including The Campfire Boys and Girls and United Cerebral Palsy, Ya Es Hora, Aunt Rita’s Foundation, and she was a founding executive board member of one of the first two university chapters of the Human Rights Campaign on Arizona State University’s campus. Additionally, she has worked or volunteered for about two dozen political campaigns! Julie also holds fundraisers for causes that are important to her, most recently this past July raising over $500.00 for Black Women for Wellness Los Angeles. Julie has also taught community art classes and helped to organize community art events in five cities around the country. 

Julie is a graduate of Arizona State University and holds a B.A. in Art Studies and a BFA in Sculpture. She completed her teaching credential at Brandman University where she is currently earning her MAT. 

Julie is originally from Irvine, California and has since lived in Arizona, Missouri, and Colorado. She loves to go camping, on nature walks, and on road trips. She also enjoys making art and jewelry. Her favorite book changes with her mood, but she always loves the Harry Potter series! Julie also loves to eat all sorts of foods. She especially loves poke, sushi, spaghetti, thai curry, malai kofta, and anything with eggplant. She’s passionate about science and history because together they allow us to understand the world we live in. She loves learning and wants to absorb as much information as she can! Julie enjoys spending time with her spouse, baby, and cat.
