Garrett Gibson is the middle school math and science teacher at Environmental Charter Schools (ECS) since 2018. Previously, he taught 6th grade integrated science with Alliance College-Ready Public Schools.
Garrett was drawn to ECS by the beautiful campuses and amazing opportunities for outdoor education. He believes that reconnecting with the natural world is essential for much of today’s population, especially with growing climate concerns and in urban areas. Additionally, Garrett appreciated that teaching both math and science together allows for better identifying and targeting the interconnection between these subjects.
Garrett graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a B.S. in Chemistry. He earned an M.A. in Education from Claremont Graduate University. He completed research at the California Institute of Technology and has completed coursework at CSU Channel Islands and UCLA. In the coming years, he aspires to attend UCLA’s Educational Doctorate program.
Garrett grew up in Riverside, CA, where he interacted with many animals, including a goat and chickens. He hopes to instill some of his students with the same appreciation for all of Earth’s life, as well as an understanding of non-living matter. When not with students, he enjoys trying new foods (especially sweets) and exploring with his family and their pets (two dogs and two parrots).
