Emily McMillan is the 7th grade Humanities Teacher at Environmental Charter School-Gardena since the 2020-21 school year. Emily has seven years of experience as a middle school English and History teacher. Previously, she taught 6th grade English and Reading Intervention at Resolute Academy.
Emily loves the passion and conviction of ECS. She was drawn to the organization’s mission to create a more equitable, sustainable world through building community and curious, critical thinkers. As an educator, Emily’s passion lies in providing a safe and supportive space for middle schoolers to explore who they are, who they want to become, and how they can participate in the local and global world around them.
Emily is a graduate from Ohio University and holds a B.S. in Middle Childhood Education, with a specific focus in English and History. She also participated in the university’s Diversity Studies Certificate Program. Since moving to California, she has become a volunteer in the Adult Literacy Program at Los Angeles Public Library. A Native of Northeast Ohio, Emily spent most of her time there before moving to Los Angeles in 2017. She enjoys hiking, camping, yoga, reading, and spending the day at the beach! Her current goal is to travel to as many parts of the world as possible!
